Santa Fe Preparatory School was where Gunn graduated in the year 1986. She was a graduate of Northwestern University in 1990 with the major of theater. Gunn went to the British American Drama Academy, which she attended for one year in 1988. The couple lived together in Pamela Adlon after moving to Laurel Canyon Los Angeles. Gunn's performance in AMC's show Breaking as Skyler White is the one that has made her most known. Her outstanding performance on the show in 2013, and 2014 she was awarded a nomination for Primetime Emmy Award Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. In August of 2013, her opinion ed article for The New York Times examined public hatred directed towards her role.
